Caring for your teeth? Quite an obvious thing to do, right? Dental care is defined as ‘medical care and hygiene relating to your teeth’, by the Collins English Dictionary. Although we already know how to brush our teeth since we were toddlers, we need to review and remind ourselves of…
1. Brushing
Brushing your teeth twice a day is something that sounds basic to say, and yet, so crucial to maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Go for toothbrushes with small heads, for easy access to all corners inside your mouth, and with soft to medium bristles, or use a powered toothbrush.
2. Toothpaste or gel
Use good quality products for your teeth and gums. I prefer using a special tooth gel and not toothpaste (for scientific reasons).
3. Floss
Floss your teeth daily to remove food stuck between the teeth. Bleeding gums is a sign of concern (if it persists), that you should take care of urgently. Brushing and use of dental floss, help to remove plaque, which causes tooth decay.
4. Scrape and gargle
Scraping your tongue removes bacteria and aids a fresh breath. If you suffer from bad breath, then mouthwash is helpful when used regularly, and especially before attending social events.
5. Sugary foods
Avoid eating sugary foods, or keep it to a minimum. When I eat chocolate, I prefer sucking it and not crushing with my teeth. I also avoid caramel sweets and acidic drinks such as soft drinks.
6. Tobacco
Smoking stains the teeth and also leaves a strong and repulsive smell. While generally, it may be a difficult process to stop/control smoking habits, not smoking benefits in many ways, as well as having good teeth!
7. Injury
Injury to the teeth may cause chipping or even breaking. Keep an eye on children’s playing habits, and make use of proper helmets for sports activities. Don’t open bottle tops, crack nuts and open packages using your teeth.
8. Check-ups
Regular professional dental check-ups are essential to maintaining the condition of your teeth and gums. With a proper daily teeth care routine, you will have better results and fewer visits to the dentist.
Last but not least, do remember to smile regularly and confidently. Do you have any tips to share? Please do so (and abstain from naming brands / only post a link if informative). Thank you!
Note: In case of need, do seek professional advice from your dentist.

You can also take fibre containing food which helps in natural cleaning. For example apple is called the nature’s toothbrush. Great article btw.
