Do you have a hobby? If no, then why not start one now? If you do have one, then are you still enjoying it as much as you did when you first started it? Hobbies bring you so many benefits, but make sure to choose the right one/s…
I’m a blogger, sharing what I’ve learnt and personally experienced through life tips, so starting a hobby is an inevitable topic for me to write on! In this blog post, I’m giving 12 tips to guide you in your quest for either starting a new hobby or reviewing the validity of your present one (if you’ve put it aside, lately):
1. Your interests
Make a list of your interests. Consider all of them… Which one/s could you turn into a hobby?
2. Your childhood
Ask yourself what you enjoyed as a child and couldn’t do at that time. Find things that retain your interest, and could bring intrinsic benefits and well-being!
3. You can afford
Hobbies may cost you money, so forecast how much you’re willing to invest and set a reasonable budget on a long term basis.
4. Keep fit
While practicing a hobby, you may also have by-products of other benefits! So play a sport, exercise, take walks, do things that keep you physically fit.
5. Look good
A new hobby could emerge from your glamorous side. Could you go for modeling, start an Instagram account for fashion, or do you prefer to learn how to do your own facial and manicure?
6. You relax
Your hobby could induce relaxation and bring you serenity… Practice yoga, mindful meditation, go to painting, arts or photography classes. If you enjoy such hobbies, you can also benefit from replenishing yourself!
7. Make friends
Joining a new weekend class could be a means to do and learn things that you enjoy while making new friends at the same time! This could further help in networking for multiple purposes.
8. Personal development
You set goals for career/business needs and find ways to get better in your field, right? Would you like to further develop your skills? Joining courses on subjects that you enjoy a lot, could do much to further boost your achievements while becoming a hobby at the same time!
Joining your church (or other religious institutions), a non-governmental organization, or helping out in your local community is a wonderful way to serve others, make friends and use your spare time positively.
10. Be eco-friendly
While you plan on starting your new hobby, do ensure that no damage is done to the environment. For example, fishing may be what you want to do, but be aware that our natural resources are so scarce, that we should protect them!
11. Have a routine
Once you’re ready to start your new loved hobby, be sure to plan for it properly. If you want long term benefits, incorporate your new activity into your daily/weekly to-do list, and track your progress, being accountable.
“I don’t have time for hobbies. At the end of the day, I treat my job as a hobby. It’s something I love doing.” – David Beckham
“Today is life-the only life you are sure of. Make the most of today. Get interested in something. Shake yourself awake. Develop a hobby. Let the winds of enthusiasm sweep through you. Live today with gusto.” – Dale Carnegie
“I think fashion is a lot of fun. I love clothes. More than fashion or brand labels, I love design. I love the thought that people put into clothes. I love when clothes make cultural statements and I think personal style is really cool. I also freely recognize that fashion should be a hobby.” – Anne Hathaway
Hobbies are fun! Everyone needs them and they bring other benefits at the same time. However, finding the right hobby is crucial, before you invest your time and money. Have you already found a hobby that you love? Are you starting a new one soon? Please share your tips. Thank you!
