Dopamine, serotonin, endorphins and oxytocin are your true allies! They join hands to help you feel your greatest. But how do you stimulate these happiness hormones?

I’m a blogger on life tips, and happiness is a topic that I just have to tell you about! In this post, I’ll highlight 10 great ways to help you keep smiling…

1. Take it easy

First of all, work on having a mindset and attitude that’s conducive to happiness. Avoid being a perfectionist, take the time to relax and enjoy the simple things in life!

2. Choose happiness

Live intentionally! Living the life that you intend to, will bring you closer to achieving your life purpose. Trying to live your life, based on what others expect of you, doesn’t have the same effect as living your life in line with your ‘why’ or true ‘raison d’être’.

3. Meet friends

Spending time with family, friends and other loved ones is a great way to unwind. You talk, laugh and see what others have been up to. This creates a loving and caring environment. Do things that you enjoy and that help you to unwind daily.

4. Hugs

Hug someone… your child, your spouse, your canine friend! A hug does a lot in increasing your feeling of wellbeing. So does making love and the special feeling of being in love (especially at the start of a relationship).

5. Say ‘no’

While you want to be helpful, polite and caring towards others, saying ‘no’ when needed is essential. Set boundaries so that you don’t burn yourself out and avoid toxic people when necessary.

6. Nutrition

Certain foods and beverages tend to enhance happiness. Many people turn to chocolate, caffeine, alcoholic drinks and more for consolation. However, you should be aware of your habits and control any excessive intake that could be detrimental to your health!

7. Exercise

Daily exercise is a great way to boost your happiness hormones while keeping you in shape. Find a sport that you enjoy and start practicing daily. Staying outdoors help to beat ‘winter blues’, since you’ll get more sunlight. Meditation and yoga also help.

8. Laughter therapy

Watch a movie, TV show or read a comic book that makes you laugh! Learn and practice laughter yoga, by joining guided sessions or find online support. Make laughing a natural habit!

9. Achieve your goals

The feeling of having accomplished something that you’ve worked for is so rewarding! Set yourself goals, work on your project and feel the joy of succeeding that you so well deserve.

10. Journalling

Keep a journal to track your emotions on a daily basis. Find out what makes you happy, what gives you a bad mood and so on… Link these to activities/events during the day. This will help you to become aware of your feelings. Practice gratitude. You can then work on doing things that bring out the best in you!

  1. I love those tips! A big highlight to the “journaling” tip. I started journaling to help me to get through my chronic illness and it works so well! I have control of my symptoms and it helps me to practice gratitude as well. And thanks to reminding me the importance of saying no.

  2. I think that saying “no” is a tip that is often forgotten and overlooked because people want to be nice. But saying “yes” (to make people happy) too often, can take away from your own happiness.
