With the hustle and bustle of daily life, do you take the time to slow down a little? In a world where so much is expected of you, taking the time for yourself is primordial! You need activities that make you feel at your very best, so that you can then, give the best of yourself in whatever you undertake…

I make sure that I regularly save enough time for myself. I then perform better at things that I do in different spheres of life. In this blog post, I’ll share 16 things that you can do to invest time in yourself:

Life in general

1. Reflect on life

Take the time to think, evaluate and appreciate different aspects of your life. Find hidden emotions, feelings, dreams and intentions. Work on improving your life for true intentional living.

2. Set goals

Know your life purpose. Set the right goals fo yourself. Have an action plan and start working towards what you truly want to achieve in life.

Self-improvement

3. Attend workshops

Build on your skills, knowledge and talents. Join a workshop/training sessions to further enrich yourself. Boost your potential for success!

4. Take online courses

Use your spare time for an online course. Free or paid, you can choose from what seems like an unlimited variety over the internet! Learn with flexibility and whenever you feel like.

5. Listen to podcasts

You can learn tons through podcasts, while doing other things simultaneously. It’s time-effective and productive. Find some great ones on your favourite topics and follow them for regular listening.

6. Volunteer

Join a local community group/organization. Dedicate your spare time for a cause that you truly believe in. You’ll help others, make friends and feel happy at the same time.

Self-care

7. Pray/meditate

Meditation, yoga, mindfulness are some of the ways that you take care of your emotional wellbeing. It’s vital to feel strong first, then to cope with the harsh realities of life. Practice daily to feel in control of stress levels.

8. Work out

Keep fit through daily/regular fitness exercise. You’ll not only stay in shape, but will have multipe other wellness benefits. Choose an activity that retains your interest, so that you’re motivated and can make it a natural habit.

9. Have hobbies

If you’re fond of music, then use your spare time to learn playing instruments, singing or dancing. You can choose it as a hobby or if you’re more talented, then why not take it up to perform professionally or as a side-huslte? Not into music? What about sports, drawing, photography..?

10. Laugh

Watch funny movies or read comics. Stimulate your happiness hormones for holistic wellness! Join a local group that practices laughter therapy.

11. Pamper yourself

Treat yourself at the spa for those services that you can’t perform yourself. A full body massage does a lot to loosen tensed muscles. If you instead prefer self-massage which is quick and free, then relax your tired feet, all by yourself at home!

12. Window shop

Take yourself out to the mall and look around for what you may need. Do you agree that window shopping can save you money? Yes… you can prevent impulsive buying if you compare quality and price, then make a calculated buying decision!

13. Try out new clothes

Try out new styles, new colours, new shoes… You don’t have to buy them all! On the contrary, while window shopping, just test new things out. You could be surprised to see how great you look in attires that you normally never wear!

14. Eat out alone

Some people may hesitate to dine at a restaurant in solo, while others find it perfectly natural. If you do find it odd, then try a cafe or have lunch on your own somewhere. My experience tells me that it’s enjoyable and I get the time to sort out many ideas through reflection.

Family/socialize

15. Spend quality time

Daily family time is essential to strengthen bonds. Parents keep an eye on their children while they grow up. Couples get to catch up on what happened during the day. Meeting grandparents, others in the extended family and your circle of friends is also important.

16. Play with your pet

Yes, your pet needs to feel loved too. Dedicate daily time for its care and play. Your canine friend, fish, bird… is also part of your family!

Conclusion

To sum up, take care of yourself first, then you’ll be able to deal with the exigencies of life. Do you have any tips to share? Please do so. Thank you!!

  1. Love these! I really do most of these, but would love to do more to hone in and improve my skills. My favorites are to pray and meditate and spend time with my puppy!

  2. I love your list! I love seeing different ideas that help me think of ways to take time for myself and ways that work best for me. I think I have decided that getting away is the best way I can personally dedicate time for myself. I’m such a multi-tasker that when I’m home it’s hard to make myself stop. Also, I love your suggestion for podcasts. That is definitely something I have found that I love, and a great way for me to take some time for myself.

  3. ALL THESE TIPS ARE GOOD ONES. Being a self-sacrificing husband isn’t always so good for the husband—I take care of my disabled wife–she is in dialysis and I in the waiting room, as I write this—DOING all these things take dedicated time! But—I’m getting help! 😀 Thank you for sharing this practical and necessary wisdom with us!

  4. I eat alone once in a while, some people ask how I can do that? Apparently many can’t but I’m okay with it, it does give you time to contemplate. Although, the trying on clothes is a bit dangerous for me, lol. I’ll buy them not just try them on, lol.

  5. As you have mentioned self-love is important. In the past I was very servile to others that I never had a me-time. Thistle caused me serious damage. Now that I dedicate time for me to learn/laugh and workout, I feel so productive. Thanks for sharing , it found relatable ❤️
