Happiness life lessons are crucial to success.  Who doesn’t want to be happy? Aren’t you keen on always being cheerful? While you can’t control things 100%, there are numerous things that you can do to feel better.

I’m not a happiness coach, but as a blogger, I’ll share with you 14 tips for being gleeful:

1. Be genuine

The first thing that makes a great difference is being yourself. Although societal norms tend to dictate what’s expected of you, you choose what you intend to live! Abiding by the law is primordial. At the same time, what you want to do is your decision.

When I decided to move on from my corporate career, it demanded guts.  It was a major challenge.  However, having taken meaningful decisions, I’m pleased about it.

2. Choose happiness!

Joy exists and many times, you may be ignoring it. Choose to see the brighter side by living mindfully. Notice it in the simple things daily.

When I open my window every morning, I love breathing in pure air.  The rays of the sun help me wake up.  I enjoy the view from my window, which is blessed with nature.

3. Practice self-care

To feel truly happy, take care of yourself first, then you’ll be able to keep up with the demands. From having proper sleep, healthy nutrition, exercising regularly, and meditating to enjoying hobbies, and socializing. Self-care should be a daily habit!

4. Enjoy family time

Spend quality time with close ones. Bonding with your family at dinnertime after a hard day is soothing. It also keeps communication going for healthy relationships. Find time for your extended family and friends too.

5. Gratitude journal

Express your gratitude by journaling daily. You’ll be aware of things that already exist that can brighten up your day! Be mindful, merriment is right here, right now!

I love to reflect and write.  In the process, I realize what I’ve done right for my goals.  In case I lag, it’s an alarm for improvement.

6. Failure helps

Don’t feel devastated because you don’t succeed the first time. Keep trying and most importantly, learn from your mistakes. Your learning curve will grow gradually.

When I just started as a solopreneur, I made mistakes.  These were valuable experiences.  I learned better methods.  

7. Work smart

Frustration often comes from what you do at work. Find more productive methods for completing tasks. Make things simpler and smile at the results!

8. Ongoing learning

To keep up with exigencies and feel your best, embrace ongoing learning. Having a learning culture makes you open to changes. You’ll feel more in control of stress levels.

I strongly support lifelong learning. It’s crucial for a blogger, as there are always things to adapt to. It’s interesting, as opposed to feeling stagnant!

9. Stop comparing

Don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone’s different and that’s the beauty of being your true self. Don’t be envious.  Doing so is a sure road to dismay that you never want to take!

Leaving my corporate job had once raised eyebrows from friends and family.  People didn’t understand what I wanted.  Even though I sometimes struggled, I’ve found my purpose.

10. No people-pleasing

You have to realize that you can’t always do things just to please others. You may want to feel accepted by your peers for the better. However, you still have to draw a line when required, by setting realistic boundaries.

It’s natural to give in to the desire of close ones.  In a family and couples, each one has to give in sometimes.  However, there are times when saying no is required.

11. Avoid perfectionism

I’m all for high-level achievable goals. However, perfectionism often hinders success by creating barriers. If you keep waiting to be perfect before you start the race, then meanwhile, others will reach the finish line!

When I started my blog, I faced imposter syndrome like anyone else.  I asked myself, can I have a blog?  I realized that not only do I gain self-improvement, but I also share with my readers

12. Reject risk-aversiveness

Take calculated risks. You’ll be happier when you learn more. You’ll get better than those who refuse to venture out.

Personal growth comes when you take challenges.  Venture out.  Leave your comfort zone to try out new things.

13. Happiness v/s materialism

Enough money is essential for a living. More riches are desirable for leading a luxurious lifestyle. However, you may not find long-term joy merely from materialistic gains.

It’s often said that you can find joy in simple things.  Enjoy your cup of tea or coffee.  Take a walk in nature.  It does cost to be grateful.

14. True contentment v/s short-lived joy

Prefer and choose to do things that bring you genuine contentment over superficial ones. Find out what keeps you satisfied for longer.  You’ll see that they’re often things you already have!

Being genuinely yourself is natural.  Working towards your purpose is meaningful.  Life is too short, so focus on the right things.
