Online course subscription versus individual options, which is best?  There are pros and cons, as with everything.  Read on to see which could be best for you.

What are online course subscriptions?

Generally, instead of individual options, you can access multiple online trainings.  Some durations are monthly, others, annual.  You pay for that period and gain by accessing many.

Based on your needs, you can either prefer the long-term package or a single training.  In my article, I’ll highlight the pros and cons of each alternative.  I’ll also give examples of 3 platforms that I’ve experienced using and testing.

It’s worth noting that platforms normally offer some free options.  However, the majority of content tends to be paid.  You also generally access more and earn credentials with the paid options.

Package versus single options

Access a bundle or variety of skills or take a single specific one.  Both alternatives are handy.  In certain cases, choose one over the other.

Subscription pros (gains):

  1. More options
  2. Flexible at your pace
  3. Better overall price
  4. Student networking
  5. In the loop for new training

With online learning subscriptions, you access the platform for a longer period.  The annual option gives more time than the monthly.  The longer the duration, the more you can take advantage of accessing more.

With a year, you can be confident that you don’t have to rush.  This is great for avoiding burnout and absorbing things well.  You can also complete all modules, and lessons, and take more training.

Paying for a whole month or year, you get more content.  Depending on your goals, choose the most appropriate.  Talking multiple options over a year means a lower average price per course.

With longer-term memberships, you get more time to network.  Build relevant connections, sharing the same interests.  Discuss topics and help each other.

Subscription cons

You might not need a long-term commitment.  If you only need a specific digital product, long term might be irrelevant.  Taking the individual option in such cases is best.

Individual courses advantages:

  1. Choose what you prefer
  2. Pay only for what you choose
  3. Focus your time on what matters

Save time, and focus on 1 digital product.  Carefully select your training based on your learning goals.  Take the time to complete it without a long-term package.

If your goal is to build or hone 1 specific skill, find a training that covers it thoroughly.  Save by not going for packages.  On the other hand, when you need more courses, a package is best.

Individual courses drawback

They tend to have higher average prices if you take different ones separately.  This is a key benefit of packages which is that it’s shared among more training.  Considering your requirements is crucial.

Subscriptions vs memberships

Subscriptions and memberships are often considered the same.  Both have similarities.  However, there are certain differences as well.  It’s crucial to note that each platform defines what they offer specifically.

General tendencies:

  • Specific vs broader choice
  • Limited access time vs more ongoing duration
  • Credentials vs community gains

Some general differences are that subscriptions tend to be more specific.  These could be in terms of the study fields or subjects.  On the other hand, memberships could be broader.  Once more, each platform defines what it offers.

The first could be more time-limited.  On the other hand, the second option could last longer.  One could focus on credentials, while the other could have more community benefits.  Always refer to your relevant platform to find their details.

Why platforms are handy

Some crucial importance of online learning platforms.  The gains include flexibility, affordability, and convenience.  On the other hand,  face-to-face classes have different benefits.

In addition to videos, there are other handy formats.  Convenience is one factor that counts.  So is your budget.  Read about different types of digital products.

In addition to convenience, you may consider other things.  How well do you absorb and retain, for example?  Use your best learning style to make the most of the process.

I find a wide range of options.  For example, it supports my blogging more specifically.  I gained vlogging skills as a beginner.

You can take individual options, tailored to your needs.  However, the subscription is great if you need multiple trainings in a given period.  It also depends on how long you take to complete an individual course.

Conclusion

Online course subscriptions are great.  Individual trainings have its perks as well.  Consider your goals, budget, and other needs.  Choose what suits you best.
