Text vs video content creation has its challenges. As a blogger and/or vlogger, you scrutinize whether the activities are worth your time. Even your audiences consider which format better meets their expectations.
I’ve been a solopreneur for 12 years. Blogging for 7 years, I’ve more recently leveled up my vlogging. My blog started as a hobby and developed into a side hustle. I vlog through Instagram reels.
Text and video are both part of my content creation. I’m primarily a blogger, but I also started vlogging. They support my strategy together, for the better.
Text vs video formats
Text content vs video content, which is best? You could see it from the creator’s side or the audience’s side. For a holistic approach, I’ll include both.
The challenges of content creation exist. You, as a creator, blogger, and/or vlogger, need to work smarter to meet goals. It’s also for the long term.
Your audience is who you create content for. They’re at the centre of your blog and vlog. No matter what great posts you publish, it’s up to them to see them and gain from them.
You and your audience
As a creator, you face certain challenges. While creating content, there are pros and cons. Know about them proactively, and work smarter.
Your audience, as consumers, also faces certain challenges. Text versus videos, which is best for them? It’s no secret that videos are often the most preferred format. However, text has its importance.
When it comes to text vs video learning, consider your audience’s needs. You want better retention, especially with educational content. Read more about this in my other article books vs videos skill-building.
How creators see it
I find 4 sides to it. Bloggers use text. Bloggers are using videos on their blogs. Vloggers using videos. Vloggers use text on social media and/or in videos.
9 points to consider:
- Faceless
- Building a connection
- Trustworthiness
- Speed issues
- Popularity
- Illustration capabilities
- Post captions
- Alt text
- Viewer engagement
Text for bloggers
There is the fear of blogging, especially for newbies just venturing out. It’s similar for those still at the consideration stage. The challenges are worth contemplating.
Pros:
- Easier to go anonymous
- Easier to go faceless
Cons:
- More difficult to build a connection
- Less likely to be trusted
Video for bloggers
Pro: Advantageous to embed on your blog.
Con: Video on blogs can cause speed issues.
Bloggers who also vlog are better off. You get more visibility, reaching a wider audience. Tailor your content to specific platforms.

Video for vloggers
You have the easy and tough sides to it. Be aware and prepared, planning to overcome potential barriers. Vlogger challenges also happen.
Pros:
- Video is popular and widely loved
- You can show your face or go faceless
- Builds better trust when coming on camera
Cons:
- You put more of yourself out there
- Faceless is possible, but trust can be harder to gain
Text for vloggers
Pros:
- Great for illustrating videos
- Essential for post captions
- Alt text
Con: Viewers might not take the time to read crucial information.
If you blog and vlog, you can repurpose your best content. When working smarter, you save time. You also know what has already proven to be successful.
If videos are for you, make the most of them.
Want to enhance your vlogging results?
Embrace all formats
Text vs video content, which one to choose? It depends on your preference. It also depends on where your ideal audience is present. Why not both?
I’ve, for example, embraced vlogging after being a blogger for a longer time. As an ambivert, it took some time considering whether to go for it or not. Videos are great, along with articles.
Always prefer to diversify your sources of traffic. Never rely on a single one, as it can let you down at any time. Choose to blog, vlog, and podcast… as much as you can handle.
Find what’s reasonable to manage. Avoid burnout while meeting your set content creation goals. It’s working smarter and enjoying the journey!
Conclusion
Text or video? Both are valuable. They also work in harmony, not against each other.
