There are blog automation benefits you shouldn’t miss out on.  Is your blog self-sustaining?  Can you take a vacation, while your blog operates without your daily input?

I’m a solopreneur with 12 years (updated) of experience.  I’ve also blogged as a side hustle for 7 years.  I do have much to do alone.  Working smarter supports me to get more done in less time.

In this post, I’ll share some handy tips and ideas.  I’ll list how technology can support optimizing results in less time.  I’ll also emphasize the need to maintain a genuine approach.

1. Reasons for blog automation

Blogging on autopilot, or nearly, is so beneficial!  Not all tasks can be done without you.  However, free yourself as much as possible.

With more time, you can focus on areas that you prioritize.  Instead of doing all the tasks, focus on your priorities.  For example, monetization activities could be one of your crucial concerns.

Having had corporate jobs before, I preferred working on my terms.  When I started my home office, I aimed at working fewer hours.  In doing so, I adopt better processes to save time.

There are ways to save time.  Work smart, and do the right things.  For example, I choose to work 4 to 5 hours a day.  I can also take a 4-day workweek.

2. Not completely on autopilot

There may be no such thing as a full autopilot.  You will need to show up with your personality.  This is your personal brand, after all.

If you’re fully absent from your platforms, it will show.  You need to build a good connection with your readers.  Be genuine, showing up, and replying to comments, emails, and DMs.

3. Handy convenient tools

Set up a system that supports working smart.  Use tools to speed up your progress.  Double your productivity for better results.

Software, apps, and platforms provide solutions.  Free yourself from the small things, focusing on the ones you need to.  These tools carry out tasks for you.

Bloggers need support when working as solopreneurs.  You can’t take on too much, as you risk burnout.  Read my other post, where I share a list of great online tools for solopreneurs that I use.

(4-14) Autopilot examples to choose from

There are various automation options.  All may not be relevant to your needs.  Let’s consider how some can help.

Some common examples :

  • 4) Content creation and publishing
  • 5) Social media shares
  • 6) Manage automated workflows
  • 7) Streamline your content creation
  • 8) Schedule posts in advance
  • 9) Recurring publishing
  • 10) Create and schedule emails
  • 11) Comment moderation
  • 12) Automate approval of comments
  • 13) Leverage AI for idea generation
  • 14) Productivity boosting

AI tools can create content for you in seconds.  They’re helpful and convenient.  However, you may want to add your personal touch.  I prefer using AI for research, while I write original articles.

Meta and Pinterest have free platform native features for scheduling.  I also use Buffer and Meta Business Suite.  You can start for free to schedule your social media posts.  If you need more advanced features, you can decide to upgrade.

It comes with many productivity tools, such as Google Docs, Sheets, and Calendar.  I also use MailChimp for my email list.

When it comes to productivity, working smart is key.  Over my 12 years of solopreneur experience, I’ve developed better habits.  Productivity tools are systems that support enhancing your results.

15. Content calendar and planning

Schedule your content in advance.  You never know when you might get tied up with an emergency.  Your readers and followers will expect your next post on time.

In the Meta Business Suite, I schedule my posts.  Through a content calendar, I can see what I prepared.  I ensure I never miss out on the days I post.  I also use a scheduler for my blog articles.

16. SEO for traffic opportunities

Do you spend hours promoting your posts?  Do you also spend money?  Ads can bring leads if you choose to boost your content.  However, do benefit from free organic SEO traffic as well!

Be it on Google, other search engines, or social media, leverage SEO benefits.  I use an SEO tool to research keywords and choose the most relevant.  I’ve seen further improvement after I switched to a paid version.

Organic traffic is great.  You set up a post with good SEO, and you can get free traffic.  Even better, articles can drive traffic for months or years.  Keep them updated.

Challenges of blog automation

Although convenient, automation has its pros and cons.  Consider both sides carefully.

Pros:

  • Save time for the better
  • Scale your blog conveniently
  • Reach more leads
  • Focus more on monetizing
  • Outsource and delegate

With more time left, you can handle tasks that matter more.  There are some things that you may choose to see personally.  These are the main and crucial activities that deserve your attention the most.

If you have a VA, delegate what you can.  Use your precious time to grow your business.  Show up so that your readers and viewers know you.

Cons:

  • Loss of control, and lack of authenticity
  • Quality, and tech issues
  • Penalties from search engines
  • Cost of tools and may be difficult to set up
  • Could have security risks

While tools are there to support you, there are some drawbacks.  There are risks, as with anything else that you may use.  Choose tools with the highest security level.

Refine your approach

While there are pros and cons, you can adopt a careful approach. You ideally might want the benefits of saving time.  You might also minimize the risk of the cons, as far as possible.

Decide on a balance of what to adopt.  Automate only tasks that are repetitive and time-consuming.  Choose the best and most trusted options strategically.

Keep an eye on your analytics to track performance.  A fall could indicate that you need to change something.  Show authenticity and genuineness.  Read my other article on the benefits of natural voice and style for writing.

Conclusion

Blog automation has many benefits.  Use tools strategically.  Let your authenticity and personality shine!

Work smarter to save time.  It’s convenient and boosts productivity.  With a good balance, you can save time, and show up for your personal brand as well.
