Why optimize for the right keywords?  Is doing so worth it anymore?  With AI gradually taking the lead, you may find diminishing SEO importance.  However, read on to see how you still gain from strategic keyword usage.

With 8 years in blogging, I’ve seen the earlier days of SEO.  For the past few years, there’s gradually been a shift towards AIO and LLMs taking more of the space, driving traffic to sites.

Optimize keywords

You may ask yourself if SEO still matters.  While everything changes fast and ongoingly, there are best practices that work.  Keyword optimization is helpful, and not just for SEO related reasons.

Why and how:

  • AI citation
  • Quality content
  • No stuffing
  • Long tail keywords
  • Voice search
  • Search intent
  • Topical authority

Optimize keywords for website SEO, also taking into account AI platform citations.  You need both.  Take advantage of AI citations, as they can potentially lead visitors to your site.

Use Research Tools

Conduct keyword research using tools to assist in identifying profitable phrases.  When I perform keyword analysis or research, I consider search engines and AI platforms.

Use keyword research smartly.  They’re handy in various ways.  Find out more about the tool I use in my other article on SEO, AIO, and GEO.

Optimize for the right keywords in digital marketing, as you aim to target your ideal audience.  If you do so vaguely, you’re likely to attract uninterested visitors who bounce off quickly.  This is one of the disadvantages of targeting irrelevant search terms.  You’ll also waste time and other valuable resources.

Relevant tool features

Keyword Tools traditionally focused on search engines.  Given the need for AIO and GEO, more types of search terms are now included.  You need to optimize for various platforms for better results.

I find the AI Keyword Research feature handy.  AI Search Visibility helps to track brand mentions.  LLMs citing brands are helpful for driving traffic.  AI Prompt Ideas is a third one that’s relevant.

Social Media keywords

Optimize keywords for social media.  In addition to blog or website SEO and GEO, different social media platforms also use their internal keywords.  Take advantage of those, too.

Never miss out on opportunities for better visibility.  It’s not one or the other.  Rather, embrace SEO, GEO, and social media keywords optimization.  That way, you’re diversifying your traffic sources, spreading risk.

Update for freshness

Aim for quality over quantity, as far as your content is concerned.  After publishing around 400 articles, I’m currently posting fewer articles each month.  However, I update way more than that on my blog.

Take the time to update for freshness.  Edit outdated facts, add better keywords, and improve older posts.  Publish newer ones that truly align with your audience’s needs.

Why is choosing the right keywords crucial for online visibility?  Be it SEO or LLMs, using them supports your content.  You still gain from keyword optimization when done strategically.

Keep yourself informed

The online visibility trends and updates evolve constantly.  Instead of burning out, take it easy.  You don’t have to learn and do everything.  Solopreneurs often don’t have to deal with the complex things that big e-commerce online stores do.

It can sound overwhelming if you’re an individual blogger. However, focus on relevant tasks, and automate others.  For example, I use keyword tracking to notify me of ranking changes.

As a small blogger, I keep up by focusing on what’s relevant.  Following industry leaders for new updates is natural.  The affordable SEO tool I use also introduces features that align with the latest needs.

Newbie or experienced

When it comes to new sites and blogs, it might feel more challenging to start ranking.  On the other hand, those who started years ago saw different days.  However, it’s still valuable to optimize for the right keywords strategically.

SEO, together with AI visibility, highlights the importance of keyword optimization.  Things have changed, certainly.  This means taking a different approach, but not neglecting it.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, don’t miss out on optimizing for the right keywords.  They support your site’s online visibility.  You also gain from targeting the right audience strategically.
