Crucial reasons why email is good for business.  It supports those of all sizes.  Even individuals, such as bloggers should seize the opportunity.

Businesses of all sizes 

Is a business email necessary?  Multinationals and small organizations need it.  If you’re not taking advantage, you’re missing out.  There are special benefits that set it apart from other channels, including social media.

When it comes to individuals, it’s similar.  Content creators, freelancers, coaches, and others need to build a list.  Get interested leads into your list, through opt-ins.  Find examples of how solopreneurs gain, specifically, when using email marketing in my other post.

Before starting my newsletters, visitors used to come to my blog and never find me again.  However, when I started having newsletters, those interested chose to receive relevant communications.

Why is email marketing so effective?  Along with a professional domain, you also need an email marketing service.  For example, you might be using Google Workspace.   You then also use a platform to manage your subscriber list and newsletters.

I started with Mailchimp, which is handy.  However, over time, I realized that when being a blogger, it’s not the best fit.  I need something more sustainable in the longer term.

I researched for alternatives, and found, and tested MailerLite.  It’s known to be better suited for startups, small businesses, and individuals.  If you’re a blogger or other content creator, try it out.

Examples of business gains 

Businesses benefit in endless ways from using email.  It’s often seen as less trendy and glamorous than social media.  However, it brings results.  

You have better control over your list, compared to relying on social media algorithms. The visibility of your messages is stronger in inboxes, compared to social media feeds.  Better still, your subscribers opt-in to receive your latest news, and so welcome it.

Professional communications 

Email is often perceived as professional, although it may also be seen as informal.  It has legal and compliance requirements, as well.  Spam filters help to avoid unwanted messages.

Faster alternative 

Why is email marketing so important?  One of the many good reasons is that it’s often instantaneous.  Just hit the send button, and boom!  Your communication reaches your recipients in no time.  Compare that to good old snail mail.

Written documentation 

Emails are written and can be used as documentation.  You can keep track of what has been discussed and decided.  It can serve as a record, versus speaking on the phone with no notes taken to refer back to.

Cheap alternative 

Emails are cheap compared to many other available alternatives.  Postage is not as convenient in lots of cases.  Making phone calls or chatting is easier, though, with free instant messaging apps.

Worldwide access

Through this communication channel, you easily gain worldwide access.  In seconds, send your message to someone at the other corner of the globe.  Not to mention again, the low-cost benefits.

Relationship building 

When sending out communications consistently, you can build a better relationship with your subscribers.  Provide valuable content, and help them out.  In the long term, build trust and loyalty.

Specific blogging examples

Why are emails useful to content creators?  The same benefits that businesses enjoy apply to bloggers and other such individuals.  However, the way they use them, and the reasons are a bit different.  I’ll, therefore, highlight relevant examples.

Promote your blog articles.  Let subscribers know when a fresh article just went out.  Those looking for handy tips will gain from visiting your site to find out more.

Monetization facilities 

When monetizing your blog, you might have products to promote.  Segment your list, based on their interests, and provide relevant content.  Ensure that you send the right type of offers to the right group while staying relevant.

Analytics performance 

Don’t miss out on using your analytics.  Use it to check open rates, click-through rates, and more.  Find your most active subscribers, and learn what they prefer.

It all starts with devising a proper strategy.  Know your goals, and plan to start.  If you already have a list, grow it continuously.

Starting a newsletter was one of my crucial tasks.  I also periodically review and remove inactive contacts.  I only wish I had started list-building earlier.

  1. Businesses and consumers definitely benefit greatly from email marketing. However, one must be careful not to abuse it. For example, I receive emails from certain mail-order companies that I like to order merchandise from. However, a few of them have been emailing me several times per day. This is quite annoying and has caused me to think less highly of them.
