Are you a music lover?  Who isn’t?  Everyone enjoys some style of it.  At the same time, does it happen that you sometimes feel compelled to work on certain tasks and would like some motivation?  Read my article to find ideas on ways tunes can support achieving other things.

On my self-improvement blog, I share what I’ve learnt and experienced.  My readers find tips and ideas on a variety of self-help topics.  So let’s dive into it.

“If music be the food of love, play on.” – William Shakespeare

1. Concentrate on work

Use melodies for inspiration.  It can help to get in the flow of doing something.  Remain focused on your task, yet, enjoy without being distracted.

I tend to play YouTube videos while doing certain types of work on my laptop.  These are light things, such as scheduling my social media posts.  If I need full concentration, I might pause the video.  Playing relaxing tracks at a volume of 10 to 12 helps me daily.

2. Beat boring tasks

Make mundane actions interesting.  Why not liven up the atmosphere and start swaying as well?  When you despise certain things, motivate yourself with your favourite songs.

All good music resembles something. Good music stirs by its mysterious resemblance to the objects and feelings which motivated it.” – Jean Cocteau

3. Finish household chores

Keeping the house tidy, loading the dishes into the dishwasher, cooking dinner, ironing the clothes are all entertaining with pieces on.  These repetitive and routine duties can then feel special.  It adds variety to them.

4. Embrace fitness motivation

Play fast songs for cardio, fitness and other such physical exercises.  It can give a boost of interest in the case you’re feeling uninterested.  Go for soothing melodies for yoga and meditation.

I find that exercising in front of the TV makes a difference, especially when I don’t want to miss out on a show that comes at the same time that I need to exercise.  However, I make sure that the place is safe from tripping, wear appropriate shoes, and clear up the space before starting.

“Songs for me are like a message in a bottle. You send them out to the world, and maybe the person who you feel that way about will hear about it someday.” – Taylor Swift

5. Meditate with serenity

Calming melodies such as the sound of a river flowing, or birds chirping, are wonderful means to leave behind worldly worries and live in the moment.  For an extra touch of serenity in the atmosphere, melodies can support relaxation.

Having taken courses, yoga and mindfulness are part of my daily activities.  I normally use a quiet space at home to practise.  In case I need a stronger effect, I then choose to play a YouTube video guided meditation that has an unwinding melody.

“It is cruel, you know, that music should be so beautiful. It has the beauty of loneliness of pain: of strength and freedom. The beauty of disappointment and never-satisfied love. The cruel beauty of nature and everlasting beauty of monotony.” – Benjamin Britten

6. Jump around for fun

Do you enjoy dancing?  What’s your favourite style?  Whichever it may be, don’t miss out on the chance to play tracks in your living room and dance to your heart’s content, even all alone!

I took dancing classes as a child, enjoyed dancing to trending tracks in my teens, now years after, I play YouTube videos.  It always brightens up my day.

“Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.” – Maya Angelou

7. Sing in the shower

Why not?  Singing in the shower is not shameful.  It can cheer anyone up.  You may have heard how bad someone sings being a ‘bathroom singer’, yet, it brings so much joy to the latter, so it’s worth it.

‘Bathroom singing, also known as singing in the bathroom, singing in the bath, or singing in the shower, is a widespread phenomenon.

Many people sing in the bathroom because the hard wall surfaces, often tiles or wooden panels, and lack of soft furnishings, create an aurally pleasing acoustic environment.’ – as on Wikipedia

8. Cheer yourself up

Use jingles and tunes to lift your spirits.  While there are so many tasks that you can complete while listening to tunes, the best benefit is merriness.  Being happy is one of the most important things in life, don’t you think so?  Fortunately, joy comes from within, if you recognize the small daily things.

I use a gratitude journal to think about all the simple, yet great gifts that I have.  When I have a challenging day, my favourite tracks support me.  What about you?

Conclusion

Music is great, whichever be your style, it can make you feel on top of the world.  It’s a wonderful motivator when doing other tasks.  Would you like to comment on your experience?  If you know someone who needs to read my article, please share it.  Thank you!!

  1. I love music when I’m working on the computer and also when I’m cleaning the house. My 8-year-old has actually started listening to music on his headphones while helping me clean the house.
