Find an online presence example that highlights the importance of having one.  Also, find the benefits of it.  Everyone gains from it, be it individuals or organizations.

I started blogging as a hobby 7 years ago.  It, however, became my side hustle after the first year of activity.  I then started recognizing the online presence benefits.

Why online presence is important?  It’s about a person’s or an organization’s visibility on the internet.  For illustration, I’ll highlight my example through the blogging activity.  The idea is similar for other individuals.  As for organizations, it can be different in certain areas, but still relatable enough.

Coming back to my blogger example, online presence and personal branding are closely related.  They’re part of your image and reputation.  You want your ideal audience to find you on the internet, and learn about your solutions.

More examples with gains

In addition to the brief blogger example I already mentioned, there’s more to it.  I’ll break it down into 7 examples with their gains.  Other types of individuals and organizations use them in some way or the other.

Everything starts with at least having a site.  Having one shows your professionalism.  Your unique domain name identifies you as an individual or a business.

For hobbyists, using a free platform domain is convenient.  As for those who aim for monetization, having your own domain is crucial.  Choose your platform strategically to avoid future disasters.

E-commerce websites are among the most complex.  They require a more robust system than personal blogs.  Security to other types of plugins require more features.

Be on social media 

Social media is free unless you choose to upgrade to a paid plan.  Take advantage of free organic visits to your website.  It supports newbies and start-ups on a budget, unless and until they decide to upgrade.

To date, I’ve only used free social media accounts.  I’ve also never paid for running ads for my blog.  However, do consider paid options if they align with your goals.

You can’t totally rely on organic social media for a substantial amount of visitors.  However, it contributes to your overall traffic level.  Never depend on one source, as you never know when it can let you down.

Start a blog

A blog is great for content creation and digital marketing.  As a personal brand, you demonstrate EEAT (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness). Businesses also gain from having a blog.

My blog is focused on my niche.  Through it, I share self-improvement with other bloggers.  When it comes to online presence, my About page and author bio tell readers about me.  I also often share my experiences within my articles.

SEO exists in a constantly changing landscape.  It can often feel confusing as well.  However, it has its importance and should be part of your strategy alongside other channels.

Make videos

Videos tend to be everyone’s favorite.  The younger generation, especially, tends to adore it.  Videos are easy to demonstrate and can build a better connection than other formats.

Diversify your content formats, as far as possible.  Different people prefer different types.  They also retain information differently.

I’m a blogger but I also enjoy making Instagram reels.  Writing articles is part of my content creation strategy.  Vlogging, which I’m new to, is fun and reaches a different audience.

Be on online directories 

Online directories are handy, especially if you have a local business or service.  It’s often also helpful to target the right ones.  For example, if you’re in a niche, list your business or service in industry-specific directories, not only general ones.

I have an international audience of readers.  Blogging in the English language, I reach readers worldwide.  If you want to target by location or by industry, place your listing strategically, selecting the right directories.

Embrace email marketing 

To boost your online presence, don’t miss out on having an email list.  It’s the best way to stay in touch with your best leads.  Visitors who are most interested in your content and offers can subscribe by opting in through a freebie.  

Social media algorithms often don’t show your new post to all your followers.  However, emails are more successfully received.  You own your email list for the better.

Publish your Curriculum Vitae online.  LinkedIn is a popular platform for building connections and networks.  It’s part of your online image.  People who want to find out about you can visit your profile.

For those in the corporate world, when you change employers, your connections remain.  Contrary to only giving away business cards at physical events, you can stay in touch.  Potential connections can find you, even if you switch companies.  Even for solopreneurs working on their own terms, people can always find you for the better.

For photographers, an online portfolio showcases their work.  Other multimedia include videos, written content, and graphics.  Photography bloggers also gain from having one, as they have lots of photos to display.

What is online presence management?  In a nutshell, it’s how you or your business appears online.  This needs a strategic approach.

Monitor how your business appears on the internet.  Even individuals gain from doing so.  Be it on your own platforms, or elsewhere, stay aware of it.
