How vlogging works with other forms of content creation?  It’s not rocket science, but requires a strategic approach.  In my article, you’ll find examples of blogging and podcasting.

Although challenging, I’ve been creating articles for 8 years.  I had an Instagram account from the start, but started diving into reels afterwards.  I found a sweet spot for myself with blogging and vlogging.

Podcasting is something I haven’t tried.  I’ve only ever done video voice-overs.  However, I’ll also include examples of how you can optimize your content creation, including it.

Hone your strategy

With content creation skills, you can start a vlog, blog, or podcast.  Most creators start with one platform.  They also develop others to support it.  Having a strategy is key.

My main platform has always been my blog.  Vlogging, however, is increasingly interesting.  It’s crucial to diversify traffic sources.

Define your niche

Having a niche as a content creator is best.  Starting out as a solopreneur, you can’t cater to a mass audience.  Focus on a segment of relevant leads strategically.

Your niche shows your personality, including EEAT.  It’s your Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness that can make you shine in an overcrowded online world.

My strategy puts my blog primarily for a blogger audience.  My Instagram focuses on other vloggers.  Both platforms provide self-improvement content tailored primarily to their respective target audience.

Repurpose smartly

One key way to be present on different platforms alongside your vlog, is to repurpose.  Do so smartly, avoiding burnout.  You can easily find what content pieces resonated best and repurpose.

Reuse, adjust, update, refresh, as needed.  Avoid stale or repetitive content.  Instead, improve and update often before sharing.

Vlogging with blogging

After 8 years of article writing, I have a few hundred published articles.  I currently publish fewer, but update more articles monthly.  My blog is tailored to other bloggers.  I share vlogging tips on my Instagram.  It’s natural that bloggers tend to read articles more and Instagrammers watch reels.

Lesson learned, as a newbie years ago!  I shared Instagram posts about my newly published blog article.  I have to admit, it didn’t work.  I found that I needed to tweak my content to suit Instagram.  That’s why my vlog now focuses on vlogging tips, instead of blogging.  However, the self-improvement side of both platforms remains related.

When a topic performs well for bloggers, I ask myself how it can rhyme with vloggers.  It gives me a new perspective on the same topic.  I then create a reel that shows vlogging tips instead of blogging.

Vlogging with podcasting

Vlogging uses the video format.  Podcasting normally uses only audio.  Repurpose content and topics that work best.

How can you repurpose a podcast episode when vlogging?  You can record an interview in both formats simultaneously.  However, some things, such as demonstration and body language, show best in videos.

When making videos, you have both the visual and auditory aspects.  However, if you use the audio of a video for a podcast, you could miss out on certain elements.  This could cause misunderstandings for listeners.  Therefore, remember to ensure a clear message before publishing by tweaking your repurposed content.

Vloggers on multiple platforms

Why do vloggers need multiple platform presence?  You can’t rely on a single one.  Your account can get shut down when you don’t own the platforms.  Even with better control through self-hosted blogging, you still can lose out in certain ways.

Email lists support you to a greater extent when it comes to showing up reliably.  On the other hand, your content visibility on social media depends on platform algorithms.  Blogs are also concerned.  Be on different platforms, including email marketing.

Monetize your vlog

How do professional vloggers monetize their videos?  Vlogging often starts as a hobby and becomes a side-hustle.  This is how it was for me, posting a few reels weekly.  You can even work on it full-time and even become an influencer with a large following.

If you don’t yet have an impressive following, you can still monetize.  Direct your viewers to affiliate links or your own products and services.  In certain countries, social media platforms provide additional monetization features.  Refer to their respective guides and terms for more information on how they operate.

Props you need

What equipment is essential for starting a video log?  You can start with your phone.  Eventually, you might need a few more things.

I initially used a stack of books instead of a tripod.  As I shoot outdoors, natural sunlight is my ally.  Read more about equipment hacks in my other post.

Take video shooting easily

Film your reels or other videos naturally.  In case you’re hesitating, it’s actually fun and not a chore.  The sooner you discover that, the better.

I initially avoided Instagram reels and focused on images.  As an ambivert, more on the introvert side, I thought it wasn’t for me.  However, I gradually started and improved.

Vlogging includes skills that you can develop.  Some get it sooner than others.  However, if you want to make videos, the first step is to start today.  Find out my vlog skill-building recommendations!
