Do you practice self-care? Do you also take the time to relax, unwind and recharge? Why not combine all of them, forming regular habits, and make the most of their holistic benefits?
Self-care: ‘The practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.’ – Lexico Dictionaries

In this blog post, I’ll share with you my top 15 ways for self-care and relaxation:
1. Meditation
Meditating is a great way to unwind and recharge. It does a lot in bringing serenity to the mind and induces relaxation. I followed 8 sessions of mindfulness meditation and practice daily, enjoying the benefits!
2. Breathing exercises
Deep breathing is very helpful in relieving stress, increases oxygen intake and has many other blessings. I love practicing ‘pranayama’ techniques, which are yoga breathing exercises. It’s an energizing experience!
3. Nutrition
Drink lots of water daily and maintain a healthy and nutritious diet. Exercise regularly, avoiding excessive caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine consumption. Indulgence often brings undesired results!
4. Journaling
Keeping a journal helps you to note down your feelings, emotions, and intentions. You can better understand what you’re thinking and thus take calculated actions. This supports you to relieve tension and relax.
5. Writing
Blogging is another way to release your emotions, share your thoughts and receive feedback. The blogosphere is a great place to be in! It’s my habit to blog weekly and consistently.
6. Reading
Read books that you enjoy. Are you a fan of thrillers, romance, or other types of fiction? Do you instead prefer growing your knowledge through educational or self-improvement books? Reading about things that you’re passionate about, is undoubtedly enjoyable!

7. Confide
Talking to a friend you trust is conducive to good emotional health. You can clear your doubts and gain support as well. Be sure to talk to a sincere person, who has your best interest at heart.
8. Family time
Spending quality time is crucial daily. Meeting close ones to share about the day is a great way to strengthen bonds. It’s also a sheer pleasure!
9. Hobbies
Hobbies are fun and you get to relax at the same time! Choose your hobbies carefully before investing your time and money. That way you’re more likely to stick to them.
10. Sing
Singing is a wonderful way to express yourself. You could consider taking it professionally if you’re talented. However, even bathroom singing will stimulate your happiness hormones!
11. Music
Listen to or play music. You’re likely to choose a genre that you enjoy most. However, soothing tunes are often best to calm down.
12. Hiking
Nature walks help you to take a break from the material world! Seeing nature will relieve tension and walking is a light exercise in itself. Make sure to breathe in fresh (not polluted) air.
13. Massage
Self-massage is a quick and easy way to release tension. Relax your feet after a hard day at work. You won’t regret it!
14. Sleep
Proper sleep is vital for high-performance levels. If you don’t rest enough, you’re likely to wake up tired, in a bad mood and will have trouble concentrating during the day. Ensure that you have enough sleep every day.
15. Screen time
Excessive use of mobile phones often leads to health, productivity and relationshipissues (among others) in a negative way. While the usefulness of devices cannot be underestimated, a digital detox is essential regularly.

Yess girl!!! I have a few of these on my list as well. Screen time is a huge one at our house. Because I can work from my phone it’s so hard to unplug and take time away.

I need to be better about self-care. I used to be much better about it but lately I can’t seem to find the time. Thanks for the reminder.

I find detoxing from my phone to be the best thing ever. I do this on the weekends when I am out with my husband and kids.

I do most of these things and definitely find them relaxing. I do wish I had more time though, because I am not always able to take time to myself daily.

You have some great ideas here! I already do some, such as reading, journaling, writing, and listening to music. I could get better at a few, and could probably use a screen detox myself like I make my kids do every so often. I have just started scrapbooking again and you’re right, hobbies can be so relaxing.
