Incorporating illustration benefits your work. Solopreneurs (and anyone) can make the most of photos. Take great snaps, and use them online to show your ideal clients.
What are the benefits of illustration?
1. Photography
Taking great photos supports your business in many ways. Solopreneurs should take advantage of all the gains. You may have physical or digital products or services. Either way, go for the best photos.
I share my original photos mostly on my Instagram channel. As a blogger, I do show my face in reels and photos. I’ve gradually honed my photography skills over time.
Previously, I had a home shopping website. It was an online shop for home decor items, fancy jewelry, and other similar products. I had to take photos, edit them, and upload them to my website.
If you’re keen on learning or polishing your photography skills on your own, see how I go about it. Read my article to see how I learn and improve. It’s helpful for beginners and even those with more advanced skill levels.
2. Stand out
Illustrations make you stand out. Original and high-quality works are even better. Don’t just tell your interested leads but show them.
Stock photos are polished, even perfect. However, showing your original work sets you apart. On my Instagram, I use a combination of my original photos and graphics from apps.
You should aim for great photos. However, there are times when some imperfection adds value. Showing who you genuinely are with any vulnerabilities can create better trust.
3. Communicate clearly
Communication is key. On your blog, email, social media, or podcast, be concise. When your message is unclear, people might not understand, and move on to your competitor.
When it comes to photos, use them thoughtfully. Plan the right message mindfully. Does the shot convey the point you intend to make? How would someone else perceive it?
Body language, colors, and facial expressions are key. When it comes to physical products, the background, colors, and arrangement need to be eye-catching. In the case of digital products, show a mockup.
4. Demonstrate
Show how you use your products. Better still, display testimonials from your real clients. Highlight how they benefit in their words.
Some products may be more difficult to use than others. For example, if you sell DIY furniture, give instructions on how to assemble it. If you’re a pastry influencer, show how to bake a cake and decorate it.
Being a self-improvement blogger, I don’t have tangible products. I do enjoy my lovely garden for all the serenity it brings. My photos often show my cheerful, colorful garden. It’s a perfect example of relaxation and productivity.
5. Showcase
Similar to physical shop windows, use photos online to display your offers. Create eye-catching images. Use attention-grabbing hooks and calls to action (CTAs).
Even for a digital product such as a PDF guide or online course, it helps. People will make a first impression based on what they see. You may have terrific content, but if the cover image isn’t appealing, viewers won’t take a better look.
In addition to my original photos on Instagram, I also love using graphic design apps. It’s easy to create professional-looking content all the time.
Having your brand kit, you can quickly add your colors to designs. Remove backgrounds easily, for a more professional touch. Resize content to suit any social media platform quickly. Plan your content for publishing.
6. Branding
Staying on brand is crucial. It’s not just about your logo and website designs, you should also convey your brand voice. Even when taking photos, keep that in mind.
I’m a self-improvement blogger, sharing tips with other bloggers and solopreneurs. Blue and white appear all over my blog. On Instagram, I also use lots of green and some pink.
My photos are mostly about nature. I shoot green plants in my garden and blue from the sky. When I appear in photos or reels, I often wear blue, and sometimes even pink.
7. Color palette
With apps, organize your palette. Adding your chosen shades in a click makes it convenient. Use the same color codes every time.
Have a consistent visual identity. Text fonts are another thing to watch out for. Pair them off naturally. Some font types work harmoniously together.
8. Easily understood
Being present online, you can reach visitors worldwide. Photos can convey your message effectively. While language is often a barrier, photos are more universal.
Depending on your target audience, personas, products, or services, use snaps to your advantage. Use translation to tailor your text to the relevant language and country. Images are for everyone.
9. Storytelling
Stories are powerful. They convey and evoke emotions. In your personal and professional life, they support you.
Storytelling in business has many benefits. You can reach and attract the right types of leads when done properly. Being genuine has long-term benefits.
Incorporate the approach in marketing, and build a connection. Show how your product or service is relevant to your ideal clients. Build trust as well. Read my article to see how it can benefit your professional life.
10. Diversify the formats
Illustrations help you to convey your message better. They support the viewer in understanding and remembering. Pairing different formats can have a better impact.
In addition to your shots, add some of the following:
- Insert videos in your articles, if possible.
- Graphs show trends and display data visually.
- Memes are popular on social media.
- Pair off a quote with a relevant photo.
You can combine different formats in a single piece of content when relevant. Add your personal touch. Always test to find out what performs best with your audience.
You can see why illustration is important. As a solopreneur, use great, original photos to stand out from the crowd. Even if you’re not the best photographer in the entire world, learn and keep improving.
Conclusion
Do you need to start learning photography skills, or want to hone your existing ones? Take full advantage of illustration benefits for better results.
