Having your personal brand blog is valuable.  There are ways that it makes you shine.  Read on for the advantages.

What is personal branding?

The concept concerns both marketing and self-presentation.  Personal brand vs corporate brand?  You may consider an individual versus a company, for example.  I find that an individual’s charisma can draw and connect people better than a business entity can.

The concept is closely connected to image and reputation.  It’s also about market differentiation.  In a nutshell, it shapes public perception.  There’s also more to it.

Personal branding is a strategic process aimed at creating, positioning, and maintaining a positive public perception of oneself by leveraging unique individual characteristics and presenting a differentiated narrative to a target audience.’ – more on Wikipedia.

Why is personal brand important?

Bloggers, vloggers, influencers, and podcasters, all benefit.  Individuals should have good personal branding.  It’s crucial to their chosen activity. You may read about influencer blogs in my other post.

Personal brand benefits:

  1. Charisma
  2. EEAT
  3. Reach
  4. Feel connected
  5. Opportunities

Charisma

Bloggers are directly concerned about personal branding. A blogger can have charisma. On the other hand, a large business can include a general-in-nature blog.  It can address a mass audience with little customization, and hire many different writers, instead of a single blogger.

For small creators, the individual behind the site is important.  The person shares experiences, for example.  They shine out, and their subscribers often feel they relate through similar experiences.  That’s why readers come back for more.

EEAT

EEAT means Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.  It’s crucial to stand out in the online world.  An individual can show experience as a strong point.

Reach

With a personal brand, your reach benefits.  That’s assuming that you’ve got the right niche and readers.  Through strategic segmentation, you ensure that you target the right readers.

Feel connected

Humans are social animals.  We like to feel connected when we have similar interests.  A personal brand is more relatable than an organization.

Think of when you receive an email.  Don’t you prefer being addressed by your name?  It feels awkward to start without naming the receiver.

Opportunities

With a strong personal brand, you open up doors.  If you do guest posting, it helps.  You choose to work with brands, it supports you.  You launch your own products, it’s crucial.

When attending events, you find others through networking.  People prefer those they can trust.  It can land you interesting project opportunities.

Faceless or nameless

Using a pen name, you can also have a personal brand.  However, it’s much stronger when you show up as yourself.  Readers might also not even know if you’re using a pseudonym.

Faceless accounts can do well on social media.  However, people tend to trust when they see and listen.  Genuineness shows and readers can often sense it.

Having a personal brand vs not having one.  There are also anonymous blogs.  You can read more in my linked post (see last sentence hyperlink).

How to enhance it?

Your personal brand is part of your image.  You shine for it, and readers recognize your style.  It also reflects how you’re seen.

Here are ways to hone it:

  • Originality
  • Writing voice
  • Consistency
  • Niche
  • USP
  • Quality
  • Visuals
  • Social media
  • Track performance
  • Strategy

Originality

Genuineness shows, and so does faking it.  This is especially true on video.  However, even in text, it’s noticeable.

AI is handy, but not always effective.  Being yourself sets you apart.  Work smart with handy apps, but don’t compromise on quality.

Writing voice

Your writing voice is unique.  It flows naturally and your readers recognize it.  They can tell it’s your style.

Have a consistent way of writing, based on your nature.  More importantly, also write for your ideal readers.  Know what they need to solve.

Consistency

Show up, even when it’s not tempting to do so.  There are times when you don’t want to come on camera or to write.  It happens, but your audience expects your new content.

Consistency is important for the long term.  It’s also crucial to avoid burnout.  Never neglect taking rest, and regular breaks.

Niche

Pin down your niche, as it guides you.  Know who your readers are, and what they need.  Solve their issues through your articles, videos, podcasts, products, and services.

I once started a little vaguely as a new blogger.  However, I refined my niche over time.  Read my other post to find niche ideas.

USP

Having a Unique Selling Proposition is handy.  It can even be seen as a must.  Let readers know what you offer that others can’t bring to the table.

Your USP makes a difference and sets you apart. It’s part of your competitiveness.  A unique edge that you’ve got over others.

Quality

Quality is remarkable!  It can attract and retain attention.  On the other hand if of low quality, there’s likely to be a high bounce rate.

Grab attention, and deliver on the promise.  I work on my article headlines and often use numbers.  Choose the best option possible.

Visuals

Use attractive graphics, photos, and your brand colors.  Original work is best, however, stock photos can be ok.  I customize my graphics using a handy app.

If you’re a good photographer, take photos.  If not, use allowed free stock images.  It takes additional time to edit your own illustrations.

Social media

Don’t miss out on using social media.  It helps to spread the word.  Never count on only 1 platform, as you have no control over any.

I have an email list, in addition to using social media.  Your subscribers have chosen to hear from you by opting in.  On the other hand, social media is more on the cold side, as any posts appear in feeds.

Track performance

Use available stats to track your platform performance.  Site, social media, or email, all provide useful info.  Make better decisions from the insights.

I use Jetpack and Google Analytics.  They support me in analyzing and making conclusions.  Locate anything that requires attention on time.

Strategy

As with everything, you need a strategic approach.  Having one guides you all the way.  It’s ok to start small and develop on it with experience.

I started a site with no experience at first.  Having learned on the way, my strategy has strengthened.  It’s best to have a solid strategy before diving into it.  However, you can also hone it along the way, if still inexperienced.

Conclusion

A personal brand blog shines when worked on properly.  Readers recognize your style and come back for more.  Originality shows as part of your charisma.
