I’m a fervent advocate of online methods.  Why?  Simply because I live it as a blogger for skill-building.  Often in a more informal way than formal studying methods.

Before my blogging journey started, I studied for my BBA as a working professional.  Much of my sessions were through online modes.  This approach suited my full-time job, allowing me to learn in my spare time.  Without such an opportunity, I probably wouldn’t have completed my degree.

Why learn online

Online courses are becoming more and more handy.  There are crucial gains from choosing them.  While physical classrooms and other venues exist, many opt for online modes, given their circumstances.

Once more, in my article, I’m not referring to solely full-time university students, but anyone of any age, including experienced professionals.  Even full-time university students are likely to have a combination of both types.

Gains from studying online

The benefits of online modes are convenience, flexibility, self-paced, and affordability.  It supports anyone, and of different professions.  Education is more accessible, even for those who wouldn’t have had the time or opportunity to take classes.

Learning is lifelong and never stops.  You gain in multiple ways throughout life.  Skill-building is crucial in an ever-evolving world.

Where to study education online

There are different options.  In my article, I’ll focus on lifelong learning.  You can also find a variety of fields.

I’ll list 3 platform options, although there are more that exist.  These are platforms that I’ve used, especially after starting blogging.  They’re also among the best and most reputed worldwide.

Platforms:

  1. Coursera
  2. Udacity
  3. Udemy

Coursera has a blend of the leading universities and companies.  They offer courses and other options on the platform.  Learn from the best, and at your pace.

There are also a wide range of fields. They include data science, business, computer science, arts, maths, and more.  Choose what supports your skill-building needs.

Udacity is a platform for tech-related subjects.  Advance your job skills and career.  As a blogger with a business background, I find their business courses interesting.  Techie options include data science, artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and more.Start a 7-day free trial now.

Udemy offers a wider range of course subjects, than the other 2.  The course creators tend to be professionals in given fields.  You’ll find lots of blogging topics, such as blogging itself, affiliate marketing, digital marketing, and more.  There’s also lots for a variety of hobbies, and side hustles.

Companies

Top companies offer courses on Coursera.  They include Google, Microsoft, IBM, and more.  Learn from the leaders, gain, and apply through practice.

Universities

On Coursera, you get to learn courses offered by leading universities.  They include Stanford, Yale, Duke, and more.

Subscriptions

You can generally choose to go for online course subscriptions or individual courses on such platforms.  Not just individual courses, Coursera also offers certificates, specializations, and projects.  Udacity is known for its nanodegree programs and bootcamps.  Udemy also offers subscription options, such as the personal plan.

The platforms offer certain free courses.  However, the best majority is through paid options.  These also tend to be the best ones.

Who is concerned?

To answer the question ‘who?’, it’s simply for everyone.  Consider your needs and choose the right option.  Longer-term courses, or shorter-term projects, based on your needs.

It’s everyone’s business, not only youngsters who are full-time students.  There are multiple options, from longer to shorter courses.  Career advancement for corporate employees, and skill-building for solopreneurs, all benefit in their own way.  Anyone can learn online if they prefer flexibility and convenience.

Consider your goals

It depends on your set goals.  Your goals guide you toward your needed skills.  Ask yourself which talents you want to hone, and get going.

There are lots of options on the platforms I listed.  Formal modes to more informal learning methods.  Choose the most relevant to your skill-building plan.

  1. It is an interesting post. When I was young there was no such thing as on-line education. I started learning French with l’Alliance Français a few years ago and then covid came and we started using zoom. However, I have not taken any other lessons on-line. I need to investigate it more.

  2. Excellent article, Sharvi! I also wanted to add a few other links to assist anyone in any endeavors they may be pursuing.
    w3schools
Free coding tutorials for various languages. Mostly text book style including exercises.
    freecodecamp
Another free coding resource that is pretty good. Contains videos if that is your preferred style of learning.
Both are pretty good platforms. There’s also a plethora of tutorial videos on YouTube concerning online learning, as well as subjects such as Python and Linux.
    Best wishes!
