What is an example of a digital asset?  There are many.  Read my article to discover the tools that content creators often use.  Through my blogging and vlogging illustrations, I’ll also highlight how to make the most of them.

What are digital assets?

A handy Wikipedia article briefly informs:

A digital asset is anything that exists only in digital form and comes with a distinct usage right or distinct permission for use. Data that do not possess those rights are not considered assets.’

‘Types of digital assets include, but are not limited to: software, photography, logos, illustrations, animations, audiovisual media, presentations, spreadsheets, digital paintings, word documents, electronic mails, websites’.

These extracts give a general idea of digital assets.  In my article, I’ll focus on creator examples.  As I blog and vlog, I’ll illustrate the examples accordingly.

What are digital assets in marketing?  The examples I listed aren’t just essential to create blog and vlog content.  They’re a crucial part of your digital marketing.  Stand out and be competitive in the overcrowded online world.  Find how to optimize their benefits through my blogger and vlogger uses below.

Creators gain in different ways

The listed assets work together to strengthen your blog.  They support each other as well.  Most importantly, they make it easier for your readers to understand your content, if used strategically.

Blogger uses

Content:

  • Articles
  • Images
  • Videos
  • Photos
  • Audio
  • PDFs
  • Ebooks
  • Checklists
  • Whitepapers
  • Case studies

Each of these provide value to your audience.  They also support each other.  In doing so, your reader can get more value out of your message.

I use images in my articles.  These can be those I create using a free tool like Canva.  If not, I also sometimes use Pexels’ free stock photos.

When relevant, I insert screenshots for better information.  For example, when I explain how a platform works, I prefer sharing a screenshot.  This clarifies and facilitates better communication of my message.

Branding:

  • Logo
  • Favicon
  • Website design
  • Fonts
  • Color palette
  • Social media

I created my logo and favicon in Canva.  You may opt for a more professional and advanced level of design.  If you don’t have advanced graphic design skills, finding a freelancer for it could be the best option.

My website design was an easy task for me, as I simply used a theme.  All I had to do was customize it with my brand colors.  I also added a few more changes, while keeping it minimalistic.

You can hire a web designer if you prefer an advanced level of work.  Doing so will be for a higher budget than buying a theme.  The quality of such design tends to be more professional-looking and unique than customised themes.

Technical:

  • Domain name
  • Hosting file storage
  • CMS
  • Plugins
  • Email list data
  • Analytics
  • SEO
  • Backlinks

Your domain name is unique to your site.  Choose it carefully, and strategically.  Consider relevant keywords and a relevant domain extension or TLD.

My blog Tips from Sharvi includes my nickname.  I’ve chosen a dot com TLD as part of my strategy.  It’s best for commercial sites.

Although I don’t yet sell any digital products, I do partner with brands through affiliate marketing.  My dot com domain extension also has a global geographic reach.  It suits the type of affiliate products I promote, which are all digital.

Grow a subscriber email list to reach your contacts conveniently.  Analytics, stats, and insights provide invaluable feedback.  SEO performance and backlinks are also things to monitor.

Vlogger uses

Vloggers have some assets similar to bloggers.  They also have those that are more specific to videos.  Let’s see more closely.

Content:

  • Videos
  • B-roll
  • Audio
  • Music
  • Thumbnails
  • Scripts
  • Closed captions
  • Sound effects

The listed content digital assets are specifically for videos.  Bloggers can share videos within their articles.  They can also be present on vlogging platforms, such as YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.

I vlog through Instagram reels.  Being a blogger for a long time, I more recently started vlogging.  I enjoy reels, as they’re fun to create and watch.

I shoot original videos and b-roll.  For images, I normally use Canva.  Carousels are educational, and single images support infographics best.

I enjoy trending and lively Instagram music.  For speaking videos, I use my voice.  Just before publishing this new article, I published a short speaking reel.

I had a script for the speaking video, enabled closed captions so that anyone could follow.  I used Instagram’s Edits app to improve voice quality by increasing the volume.

Branding:

  • Banner
  • Post templates

Along with the logos, fonts, and color palette already listed under blogs, vlogs can have something more.  Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter use banner or cover images.

Post templates save you time.  Easily create them in apps such as Canva.  Ensure branding consistency across all platforms.

I not only use my logo, but also my headshot profile photo.  As a personal brand, showing my face is natural.  If you choose, you can even go for a faceless brand.

Technical:

  • Video editing software
  • Audio editing software
  • Equipment
  • Platform insights
  • Metadata
  • Engagement

I use my phone to shoot reels.  I also further polish my videos in other apps.  Sometimes I use Canva, other times, Instagram’s Edits app.

Check platform stats to evaluate performance.  Check insights to see what brings results, and improve.  Audience engagement is a good indicator.  Sales generated are even more specific to identify what works best.

Encourage your readers and followers to show appreciation.  Make the most of the different formats.  Use the most relevant ones for the right type of posts you create.

Conclusion

I listed examples of digital assets, especially for creators.  Bloggers and vloggers should use at least some of them.  Choose your types strategically, and meet your set goals.
