I’m a blogger who embraced vlogging after years of hesitating.  It was worth starting vlogging alongside my blog.  Being an ambivert, more on the side of introversion, I finally decided to dive into it.

My vlogs are in the form of short-form videos, namely Instagram Reels.  However, YouTube and TikTok are also popular platforms.  I’ll focus on reel examples in my article.

B-roll clips make your life easier.  Free yourself from setting up your equipment and everything, just for 1 reel.  This helps you focus on more crucial tasks productively.  I also prefer simple set-ups.

Batch your reel shootings for a better time-saving experience.  Plan a day where you shoot a week or a month of reel content.  Wear different clothes if shooting yourself in your videos.

Set up your equipment once for recording various clips.  Avoid moving them too much.  I often change angles to shoot 3 different reels quickly.

Have you ever been caught up in an awkward or unflattering moment?  With b-roll, you can camouflage the flaws you want to.  I’ve replaced an unwanted few seconds with b-roll taken from another angle.

Clips can be evergreen.  Reuse, recycle, or repurpose from time to time.  Just make sure that you don’t overdo it, and use them relevantly.  I prioritize my original content as the main type.

Get yourself covered on lazy days.  If you’re not feeling well or have bad hair on a day, use a b-roll.  I even occasionally do faceless reels.

Where to get b-roll every time you need it? Create a bank on your phone.  Easily find footage, conveniently.  I find this crucial and invaluable.

You can find high-quality b-roll footage online.  There are platforms for royalty-free b-roll footage.  However, original content tends to stand out, even with natural flaws.

B-Roll ideas for most niches

Niches are different and require relevant content.  However, when it comes to b-roll, it’s easier.  There are some things that everyone tends to have in common.

Shoot a few seconds of your daily moments:

  • Coffee time
  • Garden walk
  • Home office view
  • Lazy morning
  • Playing with a pet
  • Setting up your equipment 
  • Laptop work
  • Device screen
  • Serenity time
  • Meeting friends or peers 

I use such videos as evergreen content.  Having these clips on my phone is handy.  It makes posting relevant content consistently.

If you haven’t started your b-roll content bank, do so today.  Save time and avoid burnout.  Vlogging should be an enjoyable activity, not a chore.  Find ideas for filming Instagram Reels.
