I used to work full-time and study on a part-time basis, commuting daily. Nowadays, I work from home. If you do travel to work, then here are 20 interesting and fruitful things to do…

1. Relax

Use time to relax, unwind and recharge! This is ‘your’ time, so dedicate it to yourself! Self-love and self-care are primordial.

2. Meditate

With spare time to enjoy, complete your morning routine by meditating to clear your mind and feel serene in the morning. This way, you start the day energized.

3. Breathing exercises

Breathing deeply helps to relieve stress. It also has other health benefits. Do that when there’s plenty of fresh, non-polluted air.

4. Affirmations

Want to work on your self-confidence? Repeat affirmations in your mind (not aloud, there will be people around)… This is a great way to be positive!

5. To-do list

Work on your to-dos. Be well organized. Planning for work and personal tasks help to boost productivity.

6. Life goals

Use this time to reflect on your life goals. This is crucial to achieving what you truly want to. Live intentionally!

7. Daydreams

Are you a daydreamer? Dreams can reveal important things about yourself… Why not work on them? Make use of your travelling time for an action plan and live your dreams!

8. Journal

Daily journaling has helped me a lot! I use it to track progress towards my set goals. It’s also helpful in many other ways, such as working on gratitude.

9. Hand lotion

When you rush out of the house to catch the bus, you may have neglected your skincare routine! Always prefer to have it at home and in a proper way. However, when missed, do keep some lotion in your bag for the journey.

10. Lip balm

Dry and cracked lips? Apply lip balm anytime, anywhere! Don’t hesitate, as it helps to protect your lips.

11. Books

If you’re not driving, then reading books is an interesting thing to do. However, remember that you should take care of your eyesight as well. While commuting, the environment is often not conducive to it.

12. News

Use your spare time to see what’s going on in the world. Be upfront with the latest news. Once at the office, you’ll look into work right away.

13. Emails

See what’s in your inbox. This could be your personal or (for some people) work email. One common issue could be privacy. Do you feel safe or are others peeking into your phone?

14. Social media

Check to see what friends have been up to! Post about your thoughts… Wish your cousin a happy birthday.

15. Music

Play your favourite list. Bring back great memories. Use earphones so that you don’t disturb other passengers. Be careful of overuse… earphones could lead to health issues!

16. Podcasts

Further development your knowledge! Listen to helpful podcasts that you’re interested in. Apply what you learn and see results in your life.

17. Singing

If you know that you won’t disturb anyone around, then sing along with the radio. This helps to be cheerful and stress-free. You can have fun while commuting!

18. Hobbies

Do you knit (or have other hobbies)? Make yourself a new sweater for the coming winter. Be productive for your own good!

19. New friends

Talk to the person next to you in public transport. Ask them about their day or compliment them about something. Break the ice and you could find a new friend!

20. Smiles

Smile to strangers just like that… It can make someone’s day! You won’t lose anything yourself, either!

  1. Another absolutely amazing post. I always advise my students to maximize every moment. I teach them to carry around a small note book with their notes so that they can review will traveling. As for me. The train ride is my office and I use the time to plan.
