Repurpose content, free of charge can be splendid for your marketing efforts.  Bloggers and solopreneurs often have much on their plate.  Why reinvent the wheel when you can work smart with what you’ve already created?

I publish one new article each week.  It could be better to publish more often.  I’ve, however, found the sweet spot for myself.  I also aim at updating others every month.

If you’d like to find out more about blogging frequency, read my other article. It also includes research conducted with reliable stats. Find what works for you, being consistent for the best results.

1. Why repurpose content?

Content recycling is another term used for repurposing.  Bloggers benefit by saving time, energy, and resources.  Make the most of what you already have, and get more eyes on your posts.

Use the task as an opportunity to update older work.  Having fresh info is a must.  Even when evergreen, you’ll have to revisit and update things after some time.

Articles can drive organic traffic for years.  In addition to organic search, leverage other sources to reinforce the gains.  There are various ways to achieve this, which I’ll detail below in my article.

2. Repurpose content free

Repurpose content fast and for free is like a dream come true!  You save time and get to spend less or nothing.  Fortunately, some various platforms and apps have a free version.

Using paid versions will always provide more features.  However, when just starting, you can benefit from basic plans.  You can often choose to remain on them for as long as you want.

3. Repurpose vs reuse

What is the difference between reuse and repurpose?  Generally, you may share older posts as they are, with no modifications.  This could be seen as reusing them.

When you take the time to update your work, it adds value.  You may customize them further.  This is repurposing.

4. Different client personas

The text you create may be adapted to different personas.  For example, I share self-improvement tips for bloggers and solopreneurs.  Certain of my tips apply mostly to one of the two types of readers.

Solopreneurs can be further broken down into other types.  The term digital solopreneurs is a more specific niche.  They tend to work through the internet, and possibly from home.

If you further break details down, you get more specific.  Coaches, freelancers, and vloggers could have some differences.  A full-time freelancer could have different needs than a part-time freelancer (with a day job).

5. Buyer journey stages

The stage that readers are in the buyer journey also counts.  The awareness, consideration, and decision stages differ.  Along with a specific persona, consider the buying stage.

When you tailor your message to a specific person, you talk to them.  Talking to everyone tends to be less effective.  Tailor the right message to the right person at the right time.

6. Specific platforms

Along with the persona and buying journey stage, consider each platform.  When you plan to post somewhere, see how your viewers will benefit most.  Choose what could suit them better, and get your message across successfully.

Podcasts are for auditory learners, and YouTube is for videos.  Find how the specific audiences will learn and retain best.  It will guide you toward personalizing the communication.  Choose the right format for the right platform, with your personas in mind.

7. Articles

Looking for tips to repurpose blog content?  See what has worked best in the past.  Chances are they’ll perform great again.

Turn articles into new formats for other platforms.  I enjoy making carousels for Instagram.  Looking at my blog stats tells me much.

I use GA4 and also Jetpack stats.  I can easily see which posts have performed well.  I also update my work, adding what’s more relevant.  A keyword analysis is a must for my articles.

8. Freebies

See which tips interest a large number of visitors.  Consider your niche and target audience.  Create freebies as opt-ins.

On my self-improvement blog, productivity is a key topic. Having worked on my terms for over a decade, I’ve seen what works. My popular freebie is, therefore, the ultimate daily productivity checklist. If you’re keen on working smarter, get it now.

9. Checklists

Checklists are helpful.  They’re easy to create using a free graphic tool.  When you already have the info from your blog, you can quickly get it set up.

Checklists aren’t just easy to create.  Your reader will get handy tips at a glance.  It’s convenient for both of you.

10. Email newsletters

Writing emails for your list can sometimes be challenging.  You may ponder what to write about.  Going back to your stats can guide you.

AI is a popular way to find ideas.  The tools even write emails for you.  However, if you want your personality and authenticity to show, better be original.

I use fresh ideas for my emails, informing my subscribers about my latest article.  Even if they don’t click through to visit my blog, they’ll still partly gain.  I prefer writing a few lines only and giving a CTA to visit my blog for more.

If you choose to recycle, revisit old posts.  It could be better to update your articles first.  When a subscriber visits your blog, they’ll find updated tips.

11. Social media

Social media is a brilliant means to repurpose content free of charge.  Running ads is an option.  However, you gain from organic social traffic as well.

Sharing your old articles on Twitter isn’t the same.  You have to work on and update them first.  It takes some additional effort.

I often share my existing articles as they are.  I also update others and share.  Content has to be relevant.  As my articles are evergreen, they retain their relevance for long enough.

When it comes to evergreen content, it’s a blessing! Seasonal ones can potentially go viral. However, they tend to last for shorter periods. Read about the benefits of evergreen versus seasonal on my blog.

More formats to consider:

  • Video series
  • Ebooks
  • White papers
  • Podcast episodes
  • Webinars
  • Online courses

12. Promote

Once you’ve edited your post, don’t forget to promote it.  Use various platforms to reach a wider audience.  Never miss a chance to tell all relevant followers about your updated post.

Apps free versions

The headline of my article focuses on means to recycle that are free.  Using social media is, of course, free for organic traffic.  You can also use a content repurposing tool.

I generally create new forms of my work all by myself.  I can, however, use tools to schedule my posts.  If you want to use them for free, you might prefer using a different app for each platform.  The basic plans have account limits, so make the most of them by spreading across different apps.

What I use to schedule on social media:

  • Buffer (for Twitter)
  • Business Suite (Meta for Facebook and Instagram)
  • Tailwind (for Pinterest, and the Pinterest native scheduler as well)

You can also use tools to convert articles into other formats.  Some turn your blog posts into infographics, videos, podcasts, or ebooks.  Work smart, and if you’re on a budget, find those with a free plan or free trial.

Make the most of your evergreen posts.  Don’t waste the time and energy you invested when creating them.  Get your work in front of more viewers.

Conclusion

It’s a blessing to recycle your existing posts.  You benefit from saving resources, and your viewers gain from your tips.  Repurpose content for free, if you prefer, by using the basic versions of various apps.

  1. This post is very helpful for me because I have written a lot of posts last year and now I have the opportunity for repurposing some of them and focus more on how to creatively promote them. I still need to fix a schedule for everything to become more organised. Thanks for sharing a wonderful post, Sharvina.

  2. Hi Sharvi, on your point #10 about doing email newsletters, how do you go about doing that? I have a WordPress blog, but not sure how to do create and publish newsletters! Thanks for any info you have!
