3 blog foundation must-haves are inevitable.  Whatever your level of experience, they’re crucial.  Find out what they are and how they support your success.

Why writing isn’t all

When it comes to blogging, the first thing that often comes to mind is writing.  Indeed, it’s a natural part of it, but not everything.  You need more for your blog’s foundation, to make it complete and ready for success.

As a business graduate, I’ve built digital marketing skills that support my blogging activity.  Writing alone isn’t enough, I take a strategic approach to it.  Even finance and accounting skills come in handy, for my administrative tasks.

Through this article, I’ll highlight 3 crucial must-haves that are essential.  There are many things that contribute to setting up your site and creating articles.  However, these 3 deserve special attention.

The importance of each

How are the 3 essential, and why not to miss out?  They are the basis of a successful blog.   You just can’t do without them.

Here they are:

  1. Web Hosting
  2. Email Marketing
  3. Productivity for goals

Among the many different tools that support your blog, these stand out.  You may ask what’s so special about them.  I’ll highlight the ways they’re inevitable.

Web Hosting is crucial

Your hosting is your site’s ‘online home’.  When choosing a web host, be strategic.  It plays an important role in the quality of your blog.  With the wrong selection of it, you’re likely to regret it sooner or later.

3 key things to consider:

  • Accessibility and Uptime
  • Performance and Speed
  • Security and Protection

I currently use the WordPress.com platform (time of writing) for this site.  I’ve been with it for 7 years already, and it works for me.  However, going self-hosted is best, as you have full control over your site.

Mine started as a hobby and later turned into a side hustle.  I could have migrated the site, but my current platform does well for me so far.  However, self-hosting is the best option if you’re interested in blogging.

I’ve had another site, which was through self-hosting.  Having had the experience with both types, I can see the differences.  You really can do much more there, versus a managed CMS like WordPress.com.

After researching for months, I chose DreamHost for a site that I started from scratch.  It’s one of the best options, and easy for anyone.  I also enjoyed the freedom of adding plugins that I prefer and having full control.  On the other hand, WordPress.com is convenient, but with restrictions.

Email Marketing for connections

The second must-have is starting an email list.  It facilitates your relationship building, which is essential.  I took some time before starting my subscriber list, but it’s one of the best things.

The gains:

  • Own your list
  • Subscribers opt-in
  • Monetization

With email, you have better control over reaching your recipients.  On the other hand, social media algorithms are unpredictable.  Google SEO also changes often, especially because of recent events.

Email subscribers opt-in to receive your updates.  They choose to hear from you again and again, as you provide value.  They trust you enough to give their email address, permitting you to contact them.

It’s known that email has a high ROI, compared to other channels.  Just think of how new visitors find your site.  The majority might never find it again.  Have lead magnets to encourage interested leads to join your list.

Productivity boost for goals

Your blogging goals support your success.  To get there, you need to work smart.  Productivity is your ally, both in personal and professional life.

Handy ways to stay focused:

  • Pomodoro
  • AI Coach
  • Block your phone

Working smarter supports better results.  You reach goals within deadlines and without burnout or aim to do so.  Productivity techniques are proven ways that work when applied properly.

The Pomodoro Technique is a helpful method that I use.  It balances productivity and no burnout.  Taking regular breaks is crucial to keep going.

You may or may not use a tool.  However, doing so makes things much easier.  I’ve seen a significant difference in my results.

Working from home, I find the need to remember to take rests.  Using a handy tool, I gain much from my AI Coach.  There are also more gains.

You can even block your phone to avoid any distractions.  There are more ways you gain from using this platform.  I’ve experienced it for years already.

Wrapping it all up strategically

Your blog’s foundation supports your success.  Your choice of tools contributes to your results, as well as your writing and other skills.  Choose your software, apps, and platforms carefully and strategically.

Have a blogging strategy with tactics, and go for self-hosted right from the start.  Build an email list as soon as possible.  Adopt productive best practices through daily habits to slay your goals.

Conclusion

These 3 blog foundation components are essential.  Web Hosting, Email Marketing, and better productivity are your allies.  They’re simply must-haves.

  1. Thanks for the insightful post Sharvi. Lots of good suggestions. When I started out, I thought that the writing aspect was the most important part. I did not realize that it was just one component to blogging successfully. It’s like you’re a small business owner, where in addition to supplying product, you need to market your brand and ensure that your message gets out to the right demographics in order to be seen.
