Everyone’s beautiful (or handsome) naturally.  You’re unique and special, just the way you are.  However, some things could make you look less attractive, if not avoided.  Read my blog article to see what to steer clear of.

I’m a self-improvement blogger and in this post, I’ll tell my readers about some things to watch out for.

Here’s my list of 10 things to avoid:

1. Lack of sleep

Having a night’s bad sleep is likely to show on your face and even mood the next day.  Having a series of such nights could do worse.  Having tired eyes with dark circles, being inattentive at work, and maybe a little bit irritable towards others could be some examples that result from it.

I know that I’ve seen such days.  Going to bed between 10 pm to 11 pm is my ritual.  I also stay away from caffeine and vitamin C in the late afternoons, as I’m allergic to them, except in the mornings.  Find ways to stick to a good sleep cycle and make it a daily habit.

2. Stress

Stressful times can happen to anyone.  If it does so for long, do seek professional help, support, or advice.  Finding the cause and finding a solution is vital.  With tension, people could behave and talk without thinking, feeling under pressure.

I have been through it myself.  Meditation has helped me a lot.  I practise every morning as part of my serenity routine, including yoga, mindfulness, and breathing exercises.

3. Arrogance

Who wants to have an arrogant, bossy, and uncooperative person around?  While you can choose your friends willingly, on the other hand, there will be times when you just have to put up with certain people.  The workplace is one example.  On social media, some bully others without thinking twice.

I believe that as people age and grow up, wisdom and life experience teach us all a lot.  When I compare myself to how I used to be as a teenager and even in my early twenties, I realize and admit that I have learnt to be more cooperative and reasonable over the years.

4. Being irritable

Grumpy and bad-tempered people could also be seen as awful.  While you love to laugh, joke, and spend time joyfully, a nasty person comes to spoil the whole fun.  Does it ring a bell in your mind?

I think of a manager when I used to work in the corporate world, in my early professional life.  I noticed that he was always ill-tempered towards other people.  After careful thought, I told myself that maybe he lacked management skills and that he did feel overwhelmed and under pressure.  This thought brought some empathy and made office work easier.

5. Dishonesty

Knowing that someone has been involved in fraud, treachery, or even just dishonest tends to make them rather repulsive.  If you don’t trust someone, you might never befriend them, right?

I choose my friends carefully as most people would do.  If you don’t trust someone or have a bad impression of them, then they might always remain an acquaintance.  On the other hand, you might be judging someone harshly without knowing them.  Giving people another chance and knowing them better could prove that they aren’t how they appear to be, but are in fact, good human beings.

6. Untidy hair

A messy hairstyle could be intended to be trendy at a given time.  However, uncombed and dirty hair normally turns people off.  Take the time to properly groom your hair by shampooing, drying, and styling it.

7. Neglected skin

Everyone needs a daily skincare routine.  While women tend to spend more time with beauty care, men and children also have the needs.  The skin has many vital functions and is important.  Cleansing, moisturizing, and even using sunscreen are some of the basics for everyone.

8. Dirty nails

Your hands tell a lot about you as a person.  When you first meet someone, you might naturally take a look at the type of hands that they have.  A firm handshake is also important, although people have different ways to greet each other, based on the culture of the country.

9. Bad breath

Oral hygiene is important.  Firstly, badly-kept teeth are likely to decay, causing much discomfort.  Secondly, no one wants to talk to people with bad breath.

10. Dress code

Did you ever feel that someone lacks professionalism, based on the clothes he/she was wearing?  It can happen to anyone.  We generally tend to evaluate people, such as having an initial impression of them.  While staying home in your pyjamas can be a casual thing, attending a formal official meeting (even though through Zoom during the lockdown) needs a professional touch.

This was my list of 10 things that could make anyone look less attractive.  Some are based on attitude and behaviour, while others are more about the way we present ourselves physically.  Everyone’s beautiful (or handsome) the way they are.  However, inevitably, we have to be careful and mindful about how we act and present ourselves for the better.

Conclusion

To sum up, some things can make you less attractive if you’re not mindful about avoiding them.  From the way you act to how you present yourself, be aware of, and make the most of given opportunities to shine.  Would you like to comment to let me know about your experience?  If you find value in my post, please share it for others to see.  Thank you!!

  1. Oh! I totally agree with you that lack of sleep will really affect your looks and mood the next day. The points here you shared are so true. This is a great reminder for all of us to love and care for ourselves.

  2. I agree with arrogance. Though I know some people who are born with it and can get away with it since they have the guns to do it, most of the time it is not the case.

  3. Great points, each is on point. When talking about the looks, for me, dirty nails are the worst. While untidy dirty hair, bad breath and skin might be a sign of health issue (and a person might put work in progress into making it better) and the way person dresses might be a fashion statement you don’t get which could mean nothing. As for personality, dishonesty and irritation in voice are equally bad. Dishonesty is a major no-no for me in general and irritation in the voice just makes me feel uncomfortable and willing to run away.
